Cranston, who starred in the television series “Breaking Bad,” toured the grotto, a museum and the adjacent Dayton National Cemetery on June 30, Froats said. Two siblings, brother Kyle Cranston and sister Amy Karalius, were with Cranston as the family vistied the Dayton VA grounds, Froats said.
The visit was kept so under wraps employees and patients who were not involved with the filming of the episode did not know Cranston visited the sprawling campus, Froats said.
TLC was scheduled to broadcast the episode at 9 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 23. On it website, the cable channel described the episode: “Bryan Cranston’s happy childhood shattered when his father abandoned the family when Bryan was just 11. Seeking answers, Bryan explores his paternal roots, finds a troubling pattern of desertion, a man of honor and an aunt he never even knew existed.”
The show chronicles celebrities discovering the roots of their ancestry.
Apparently, Dayton wasn’t the only Midwestern city the Hollywood actor visited for the episode. Cranston was in Springfield, Illinois in June, surprising patrons at two restaurants, The State Journal-Register reported.
