MIAMI TOWNSHIP

Police receive CALEA accreditation

The Miami Township Police Department received full accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) during a weekend ceremony in Providence, Rhode Island. The certification demonstrates the department’s commitment to the highest quality practices and procedures that serve the community with the utmost integrity.

This is the first time in 20 years the department applied for and received accreditation. It will undergo several reviews during the next four years, then must re-apply for the distinction.

MORAINE

Gravity Games Sept. 9

On Sept. 9 Moraine will host the 4th annual Gravity Games. Join the fun of building your homemade, creative, four-wheeled “vehicle” and race it down Main Street’s hill in Moraine.

The races will take place on the Main Street Hill. Check-in and inspection from 8:30-9 a.m. with races beginning at 10 am.

Contestants will compete in three divisions: ages 8-13, ages 14-17 and ages 18-up.

Awards will go to First Place Car Overall in each Division ($50); Best Car in Show ($50) and a plaque will be awarded to the Best Dressed Driver.

Adopt a flower bed program

The city is seeking volunteers to participate in their Adopt-A-Flowerbed Program. Help maintain a city flowerbed by removing weeds, litter and spent buds. You could earn a Payne Recreation Center membership. For more information on how to volunteer call 937-535-1003.

GERMANTOWN

Drug Free Coalition Golf tournament Sept. 30

On Sept. 30 Germantown will sponsor the 2nd annual Drug Free Coalition Golf tournament at the Jamaica Run Golf Course, 8781 Jamaica Road. Registration fees are $75 per person or $300 per foursome and includes a green fees, cart, steak dinner, two drink tickets, doors prizes and 1 entry for the putting contest.

Registration and a putting contest will begin at noon and there will be a shotgun start for the tournament at 2 p.m.

Church Fun Day Sept. 12

On Sept. 12 from noon-4 p.m. Germantown United Methodist Church, 525 Farmersville Germantown Pike will be holding a Church Fun Day.

There will be food, fun, police and fire department presentations and much more.
