Pedestrian fatally struck by one, possibly two vehicles

A 47-year-old man trying to walk across Oxford State Road late Friday night was struck and killed, possibly by two vehicles.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity was not being released Saturday afternoon pending notification of his family, Butler County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Tony Dwyer said.

According to preliminary investigation, the man was crossing Oxford State Road from north to south, near Old Oxford State Road. He was struck by an eastbound vehicle whose driver stayed at the scene.

The man possibly was hit by a second car, but Dwyer said he didn’t know which direction the second car was headed, nor whether the driver remained on scene.

Information about the driver or drivers was not available Saturday. No charges have been filed, Dwyer said.

The crash is still being investigated by START, the county Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team.FIRST REPORT
