“This was a pretty big honor for us, they are pretty special girls,” said Pam Drewry, director of the team.
The 30-member team which is coached by Lori Downey, is the first team in the region to win the trophy.
“It was a moment we’ll never forget — hearing our names called for the brand new grand champion award,” Downey said.
The team also fared well at the state competition ranking second in kick, first in jazz, third in pom and fourth in hip hop.
The team is led by senior officers: Capt. Lauren Daidone, co-captains Ali Romano and Morgan Robbins and officers Taylor Peters, Kim Owen and Christen Ruff.
In addition to winning the trophy, the team also won a gold medal, a bronze medal and the high point trophy for kick.
Now that the competition is over, the team will take a short break before having tryouts next month for next year’s squad. After the 2010 high school football season ends, they will start their competitions for the 2010-11 season.
“It’s demanding — we practice three days for three hours,” Drewry said.
The team members also are classroom achievers, posting a combined 3.45 GPA.
“This season, with terrific leadership from our officer line and seniors, this group soared to incredible heights,” Downey said.
