Centerville Citizens Police Academy looking for a few good citizens

CENTERVILLE— Now is you chance to be part of the Centerville Police Department‘s Citizens Police Academy beginning Wednesday, Sept. 2.

It’ll be the 15th class program offered.

The free classes for adults 18 and over will be held from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. each Wednesday through Nov. 18. Prospective students need to complete a registration form, available in the police department lobby at 155 W. Spring Valley Road, or online at www.ci.centerville.oh.us.

The class teaches residents about the police department and local government. It includes such topics as drug investigations, domestic violence, use of force, crime scene investigations, traffic enforcement, crash investigations, etc.

The program usually has three or four police officers speak each night, according to Centerville Police Sgt. Scott Owsley. Chief Stephen Walker and detectives talk to the group, and among the guest speakers will be Kettering Court prosecutor James Long and Juvenile Satellite Court liaison Deborah Jay.
