Karyn Labbe is at the Interlochen School of the Arts in Michigan, where she’s in her third summer as an employee working with high school students from around the country.
Labbe said her first introduction to theater was in a Town Hall Theatre production as a munchkin in “The Wizard of Oz” as a child.
“I’d like to work myself up to being a Broadway stage manager of musical theater,” she said.
In high school, she was in three plays. By her junior year, she found the behind-the-scenes work more interesting than being on stage. “You get to know the magic tricks behind theater,” she said, “and as stage manager, you get to create a magical experience for the audience.”
We wish her luck.
Closer to home, the Centerville Rotary inducted new leadership at its July 9 meeting at the Nature Nook on McEwen Road. Attorney Jeff Senney is the new president of the club, replacing Carol Kennard. Club member Dr. Hans Berkel is the Rotary International District 6670 governor for southwest Ohio, and Kennard is the assistant district governor.
