“Our job is not like others, things happen on a daily basis that put our life on the line. We know that that’s why we just have to be there for the family. He is part of our family, we’ll be there to support his family and the rest of his department,” said one Dayton police officer.
Colerain Twp. Police Officer Dale Woods, struck by a pickup truck Friday night, died Monday at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, police Chief Mark Denney said at a news conference Monday night at the Hoxworth Blood Center, a part of the UC Medical Center complex.

Officer Dale Woods, who had spent more than 14 years with the Colerain Twp. Police Department and several more with its fire department, was hit while responding to the scene of a crash on Colerain Avenue, our news partners at wcpo.com report.
The ambulance that delivered him to the hospital Friday was trailed by firefighters, fellow officers and other emergency personnel who hoped to show their support; at the time of his death Monday, flowers left by well-wishers decorated the scene of the accident.
“I think the majority of people do know it’s a dangerous job, and the man was just doing his job,” Colerain resident Bob Nash said at a vigil earlier Monday evening. "(But) he was not in harm's way in terms of any bullets flying. Tragic. It hurts."
Law enforcement agencies throughout Ohio expressed condolences via social media:
The accident remains under investigation.
