City installing hydrant flushers

The city of Piqua is installing five automatic hydrant flushers in its water distribution system. The units are an effort to improve water quality by reducing the length of time water stays in lines. The shorter the time, also known as water age, the better the quality of water, the city’s engineering department said in a press release.

The units will be placed near storm drains to help reduce the ponding of water during flushing.

Installation of the units began May 27. Water lines are being flushed prior to installation, however, the city said there is a chance residents may notice a slight drop in water pressure and a slight water discoloration. Anyone experiencing discoloration of laundry is asked to not dry the laundry and call the water department at 937- 778-2018 or 937- 778-2090.

Units are being installed in the following areas: Fox Drive, East Main Street Bridge, County Road 25A near Hetzler Road, intersection of McKinley and Manier and intersection of R.M. Davis Parkway and Covington Avenue.

Questions or concerns about the process should be directed to Don Freisthler at 937-778-2090. NANCY BOWMAN, CONTRIBUTING WRITER
