Contest opposes verbal bullying

BELLBROOK — The Bellbrook-Sugarcreek Family Resource Center will be sponsoring students in the Bellbrook-Sugarcreek School District in the National No Name-Calling Contest.

The contest is for youths in grades kindergarten through 12. Submissions can take the form of essays no longer than 1,500 words, poems, or original artwork no larger than 8- by 11-inches that incorporates the student’s personal experiences, observations and feelings about name-calling and verbal bullying.

The submission should be the student’s own work, although an adult can help generate the idea. Entries that promote violence or are sexually explicit will be disqualified.

For complete rules, visit the No Name-Calling Contest Web site at www.nonamecallingweek.org.

The contest includes original music, but the center will not be sponsoring those entries. Music entries may be submitted by individuals.

An entry form, signed by a parent or guardian, must accompany the entry. Entry forms are available online or from the Family Resource Center.

If you’d like to submit an entry through the Resource Center, call and set-up an appointment time to fill out the entry form and drop off the submission.

For more information, call Susan Lopez at (937) 848-3810. Entries submitted through the Resource Center are due Feb. 18.
