Victim ID’d in fatal Darke County crash near Ohio-Indiana border

UPDATE @ 7:35 p.m.

A 28-year-old Union City, Ohio man was killed in a Friday morning two-vehicle crash near the Ohio-Indiana state line.

Joel Colchado was headed south on Ohio Indiana State Line Road when his gray 2009 Chevrolet Malibu around 6:20 a.m. veered into the northbound lane, striking a maroon 2001 Chrysler Town and Country, according to the Darke County Sheriff’s Office.

The minivan’s driver, 32-year-old Maria Orsonio of Union City, Ind., was taken to a local hospital and her passenger, 19-year-old Luis Orsonio, also of Union City, Ind., declined treatment.

Although Colchado was wearing his seat belt, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, deputies said.

The crash, which is the ninth fatal in 2019 in Darke County, remains under investigation.

FIRST REPORT (6:45 a.m.):

The coroner has been called to a crash in Darke County near the Ohio-Indiana state line.

The crash was reported around 6:20 a.m. in the 12400 block of Ohio Indiana State Line Road north of Union City.

Our reporter on the scene said two vehicles were involved: a van and a car that rolled into a field on the right side of the road.
