Animals escape large Montgomery County barn fire

FARMERSVILLE — Crews worked Sunday afternoon to put out a fire that destroyed a large barn and its contents in the 15000 block of Chicken Bristle Road.

A few pigs managed to escape the flames, but a pickup truck and equipment were destroyed along with the barn.

No human injuries were reported.

Multiple crews responded after the fire was reported around 12:50 p.m. Sunday.

Farmersville Fire Chief Tom Wallace said windy conditions fueled the flames and made it difficult to battle the fire.

The exact cause was not immediately known and a damage estimate was not available.

A column of black smoke was observed from several miles away. One viewer reported seeing the smoke while in the Kroger parking lot in Moraine.

Neighbors tell us the barn was used for equipment storage and no animals were kept inside.
