CRUISER CAM: Dayton police pursue man accused of stabbing landlord

Cruiser camera video shows the moments police are able to catch up to and chase a man accused of stabbing his landlord and another person in the basement of a house on Pointview Avenue late last month.

Jaryld Portis, 47, was indicted Wednesday on four counts of felonious assault and two counts of aggravated robbery in connection to the Sept. 24 stabbing.

Early the next morning, Dayton officers said Portis was spotted driving a car in the area of East Helena Street and Riverside Drive around 1:40 a.m. and fled from police as they attempted to pull him over.

The cruiser camera footage shows the car cross onto the wrong side of the road and shortly after the police cruiser causes the driver to spin out.

Portis is then accused of running into the Great Miami River, where police were able to catch him.

Portis’ bond is currently at $100,000 and he is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday for the charges connected to the stabbing.  Portis has not yet been charged in connection to the chase.
