Dayton crews sent to Great Miami on report of water rescue

UPDATE @ 7:30 p.m.

Crews responded to a possible water rescue tonight after a canoeist spotted a car in the Great Miami River.

Rescue personnel and police were dispatched around 6:40 p.m. to the Interstate 75 underpass at Carillon Boulevard, where an Oldmobile Cutlass was found in the water. Police said they believe the car was likely stolen, and that it appeared the car had been in the water for some time.

The canoeist said he spotted the car around 5:30 p.m. but wasn’t able to call right away.

The water was not deep and the riverbed could be seen in several spots. Dayton police said crews will return during daylight hours Thursday to further investigate.
