Two Dayton Daily News reporters won a national award from the Society of Professional Journalists for their "Walking the path of the storm series."
Chris Stewart and Josh Sweigart traveled the length of the largest of the 15 tornadoes to touch down on the night of Memorial Day in 2019. It tore a path across Montgomery County, affecting thousands of homes and businesses.
Stewart and Sweigart gathered stories from people, business and government, and investigated obstacles to recovery for print stories and podcasts.
The SPJ announced recipients Friday afternoon of the 2019 Sigma Delta Chi Award for excellence in journalism, including Stewart and Sweigart for non-deadline reporting for daily publications with a circulation up to 100,000.
