Peterson teaches clinical sexuality at Wright State University. He was asked to comment about the criminal case accusing a 22-year-old Dayton man of exposing himself in a Kroger store in Centerville and about an hour later in Sugarcreek Twp.
That man, Mitchell Cowan III, is to be in a courtroom Friday to answer to charges in the Centerville case. He is not charged in the Sugarcreek Twp. case, Xenia Municipal Court records show.
Peterson said there is a four-stage cycle to explain the kind of behavior Cowan is accused of committing:
The craving for sexual behavior, the search for an outlet to do this, performing the act, and experiencing either guilt or shame.
Peterson said there are treatments for these types of crimes, but there are not many people trained to deliver that treatment.
