Crews responded to the house in the 200 block of West Funderburg Road around 12:30 p.m.
One occupant of the house was able to safely evacuate with his cat, but the dog did not make it out of the house and died, firefighters said.
Firefighters said the fire was out when they arrived on scene but there was a significant amount of smoke still in the house.
