Mother, father and son injured in rollover accident on I-75 North in Piqua

UPDATE @ 9:29 p.m.: The state patrol is focusing on distracted driving as a cause of the two-vehicle accident on Interstae 75 North in Piqua that sent a Miamisburg mother, father and their 3-year-old son to hospitals.

A GMC Envoy SUV driven by Zachary Hulsmeyer, 31, of Minster, traveled off the east side of I-75 South, rolled over in the grass median and entered the interstate's northbound lanes, the state patrol said.

Hulsmeyer's vehicle hit an oncoming Chevrolet Equinox SUV in the accident in Staunton Twp., reported about 6:44 p.m.

Ashley Spitnale, the driver of the Equinox, suffered serious injuries and was taken by CareFlight to Miami Valley Hospital. Her husband and son suffered non-life threatening injuries. They were taken by ground ambulance to Upper Valley Medical Center.

Hulsmeyer was not injured, the patrol said.

The collision did not cause the Spitnale vehicle to roll over, the patrol said.

INITIAL REPORT

A double-rollover accident on I-75 North in Piqua has prompted the shutdown of both northbound lanes and one southbound lanes, the state patrol post in Piqua is reporting.

The accident was reported about 6:44 p.m. and CareFlight has been called.

There is a report of injuries and at least one entrapment.

The lane closures will continue until further notice.
