Duct fire forces evacuation of factory, 17 units called to scene

LEBANON — An early morning fire in the duct work of a Lebanon factory caused the evacuation of the building today and one employee to be sent to the hospital with minor burns.

A fire broke out around 7:30 a.m. at the brake manufacturer Advics Manufacturing Ohio, 1650 Kingsview Drive, Lebanon.

The fire started in a HVAC unit near the ceiling of the plant when it appears a motor overheated and ignited surrounding duct work, according to Lebanon Fire Chief Michael Hannigan.

Between 100 and 150 feet of duct work caught fire, Hannigan said. Crews had to get on the roof to combat the flames. The fire could not be seen from outside the building at any point.

Hannigan said the factory would probably lose a day of production. He did not have an estimate of damage cost to the facility.

One employee was taken to Bethesda Medical Center at Arrow Springs for what Hannigan described as very minor burns. Hannigan expected he would be released by the end of the day.

Crews from Lebanon, Clearcreek Twp., Turtlecreek Twp., Mason, Deerfield Twp., Union Twp., Hamilton Twp., and Wayne Twp., assisted with the fire.

Advics Manufacturing Ohio, which opened in 1989, produces automotive component parts, producing disc brake calipers and antilock braking system control modulator units for passenger cars and light trucks.

The company’s website says more 600 people work at the plant.
