Expected weekend rain needed, ill timed

The expected weekend rain is needed, but the timing is not so great, Storm Center 7 Chief Meteorologist Eric Elwell said Thursday evening.

The latest forecast models continue to show a front stalling across the Ohio River, which will become the path of a storm system currently moving through Texas.

This storm system will lift northeastward and into the Great Lakes, spreading showers and storms into our region by Saturday afternoon.

The storm system will stall north of the Great Lakes through Monday, keeping the chances for showers and occasional gusty winds in the forecast.

Elwell said as of Thursday evening, severe thunderstorms are not expected, although an isolated strong storm on Sunday cannot be ruled out.

If you are heading to Troy for the Strawberry Festival, be sure to pack some rain gear.

“While I do anticipate some steady rain at times, I do not expect the weekend to be a total washout as there will be some dry time,” Elwell said.
