Faulty bottle stoppers trigger tequila recall

Concerns over glass bottle stoppers has prompted the Ohio Department of Commerce to recall more than 4,000 cases of tequila, the agency announced Thursday.

Customers who purchased 1800®-brand tequila “Silver” and “Reposado” in the 1.75 liter bottle are asked to return it to the Liquor Agency where it was purchased for refund or exchange. About 50,000 bottles have been sold since January, according to the state.

The Division of Liquor Control’s investigation determined that some bottles appeared undamaged until they were opened and glass fell from the stopper into the bottle.

The Division is not aware of anyone having been harmed by the damaged bottles.

The potentially faulty bottles were removed from the division’s Liquor Agencies and shipments of the product to warehouses were halted.
