HUBER HEIGHTS — Firefighters believe two fires that broke out at the former LaMendola Elementary School in a matter of hours are suspicious.

Crews were dispatched Sunday around 8 p.m., and later on Monday around 2:15 a.m. both for fires found in the building.

The cause of both blazes are under investigation, but investigators are looking at the possibility of squatters.

A damage estimate was not available.

No injuries were reported.

In 2015, Concept 1 Academy proposed to open a private residential academy in Huber Heights which sparked controversy in the city causing the company to later change its mind and  withdraw its application.

No reason was given by Concept 1 Academy as to why it withdrew its application.
