Fitness club helping to feed local families

MORAINE — Being good to yourself through exercise and balanced nutrition is a way of life at the family-run West Carrollton/Moraine Curves, said owner Cathy Miles.

But not everyone has the means to obtain a healthy lifestyle, let alone put food on the table for their families.

That’s why Miles and members of Curves throughout the nation are encouraging women everywhere to show their philanthropic strength by taking part in the fitness club’s annual food drive.

“At the core of our business is the message that women are stronger when they rally together,” said Miles’ son and Curves co-owner, Ryan. “We want to show our community just how powerful the generosity of our members can be.”

Through March, Curves is collecting nonperishable items and monetary donations for food banks in the Dayton area.

And while the goal of the food drive is to help feed local families in need, the Mileses said the club is offering incentives to both existing and new members who participate in the drive.

Members who donate a bag of groceries or make a minimum donation of $30 during the drive will receive free a reusable Curves grocery freezer bag. Curves is waiving its enrollment fee for those who join between March 8 and March 20 and participate in the drive in the same manner.

Cathy Miles said her Curves members take great pride in knowing the food drive directly affects local families.

“It’s really gratifying for them to know that it’s keeping in your own neighborhood,” she said.

Ryan Miles said that even for those who do not wish to join Curves, “you can still drop off your donations. There are so many families right here in our own community who need our help.”
