What the business does: Floorco Flooring sells and installs residential and commercial flooring including carpet, wood, tile, vinyl and laminate from major manufacturers. They focus on one-stop-shopping for structures requiring the coordination of more than one type of flooring like a new kitchen floor that extends into an adjacent living space.
What makes the business stand out: Herlihy personally measures every job and project and works closely with the installation crew. He also enjoys educating clients about the products to make sure that the flooring meets their needs whether it is a home with pets and small children, or a business with high traffic areas.
The 7,000 square-foot facility that Floorco Flooring occupies allow customers to meet privately in conference rooms to get one-on-one attention from Herlihy.
How the business started: Herlihy of Centerville graduated from Kettering Fairmont East before earning a business administration degree from Bowling Green State University and starting a career in sales focused mainly on flooring. After working with flooring retailers throughout Ohio as distribution representative, he took a job as a manufacturer's representative for Shaw Floors in an area that included Ohio, West Virginia and Kentucky.
Much of his job involved educating retail employees about flooring products including wood floor, ceramic floors and carpet.
Herlihy lept at an opportunity for business ownership in 2007. His goal was to work with contractors, builders, remodelers and retail customers in a 7,000 square foot building that allows him to have more than 7,000 floor samples available for instant inspection. He is especially committed to educating consumers about their flooring needs.
In addition to two full-time employees and six contract installation teams, the married father of four has his father, Joe Herlihy, helping with administrative functions.
