Graeter’s is working hard to resolve a shortage of its signature ice cream flavor, Black Raspberry Chocolate Chip, which is out of stock at Dayton-area Graeter’s shops.

A notice posted on the door of the Graeter’s ice cream shop on Far Hills Avenue in Oakwood this afternoon, Oct. 8 delivered the bad news to customers:
"Due to an unexpected interruption of our supply of black raspberries, we are currently out of our Black Raspberry Chocolate Chip ice cream at this store. The issue is temporary. We apologize for this situation and appreciate your patience as we continue to bring only the best quality ice cream to you, our guests."

Graeter’s Centerville store said it too was completely out of the Cincinnati-based chain’s signature flavor, while the Beavercreek store said it had no bulk Black Raspberry Chocolate Chip for cones, but did have a limited supply of packaged five-ounce containers. Packaged pints of the flavor are available at Kroger stores, a local Graeter’s store employee said.

The employee said new supplies were expected in about two weeks, but a spokeswoman for the company told this news outlet today that new supplies of the flavor “could return as early as this weekend” to Graeter’s ice cream shops.

Graeter's officials told the Cincinnati Business Courier that the shortage occurred after a Cincinnati-area processor that turns Oregon-grown black raspberries into a base to be used in ice cream went out of business abruptly last month. The company is making arrangements with a new processor based in California to supply the black raspberry base.
The Black Raspberry Chocolate Chip has long been the chain’s most popular flavor.
