BELLBROOK

School board declines transparency request

The Bellbrook-Sugarcreek school board last week declined two requests from board member David Carpenter to increase transparency efforts. Carpenter asked that the board publish full meeting minutes and accompanying handouts rather than an abbreviated version. No one on the board would second his motion, so there was no vote.

Carpenter also suggested the board videotape its meetings so they could be broadcast or made available on request, but he did not make a formal motion. Board members Kathy Kingston, Elizabeth Betz and Mary Frantz argued the cost and effort outweighed the benefit. They said they wished more people came to board meetings, but few people do, and no one asks them for handouts or details. JEREMY KELLEY

FAIRBORN

Meeting to discuss traffic issues set for Thursday

A public meeting will be held on Thursday, Nov. 17, to discuss the problem of cut-through traffic on Ohio Street. The meeting, which will have a presentation at 4 p.m., and the same presentation at 5 p.m., if needed, will be held at the Fairborn Government Center, 44 W. Hebble Ave., in the Fire Training Room.

Fairborn Engineer Don O’Connor stated that numerous complaints have been received by both the Engineering Division and the Police Department regarding high volumes of traffic using Ohio Street to gain access to Wright-Patterson Air Force Base Gate 1-A. The increased traffic has been documented since the rerouting of State Route 444 in October 2012.

Beginning Nov. 28, temporary barriers will be placed closing Ohio Street at Broad Street for 90 days. This closure will be monitored throughout the duration, and depending upon how drivers adjust, barricades may also be placed closing Green Street and/or South Street. Notice will be sent to residents impacted prior to the streets being closed.

Any questions regarding this meeting can be responded to by calling 937-754-3055. STAFF REPORT
