School staff was advised by a caller that a student was walking in with what appeared to be a heavy object in his pants, according to a statement from the Columbus Police Division on Friday evening.

Staff encountered the student at the entry door and a handgun was quickly recovered from that student, according to police.

A CPD High School Resource Officer was advised about the incident and took the handgun.

The police division's Gun Crimes Unit is investigating.

The child will not be charged because of his age, according to police officials.
