Have you wondered why frost advisories and freeze watches and warnings have not been issued the last few mornings?

As of Oct. 18, after several consecutive mornings of frost around the Miami Valley, the National Weather Service will no longer issues these alerts this season. This is relatively normal timing considering we generally see the first frost around the third week of October.

These alerts are mainly for the protection of crops and plants as the first frosts and freezes can damage or kill them. Once the first freeze occurs, the NWS will gradually remove counties from the program.

Ohio counties along the Ohio River remain in the program until the NWS removes them or the deadline of Nov. 7 is met.
