Historic log cabin's floor collapses during Ghost Walk

GERMANTOWN, Montgomery County — Village officials are today inspecting the 1845 Toll House log cabin at Veteran’s Park after the floor collapsed Sunday, injuring two.

The collapse at 8:10 p.m. occurred at the end of the Historical Society’s Ghost Walk, said Fire Chief Dan Alldred Monday, Oct. 5.

Alldred said the first floor of the building collapsed with about 25 people in the structure.

Some were trapped on the second floor and had to be helped out by firefighters.

The injuries were minor and no one had to be transported to the hospital, Alldred said. “It was a scary end to the ghost walk,” Alldred said.

The log cabin had been located on Ohio 4 where it was used in the 19th century to collect tolls. It was moved in 2000 to Veterans Memorial Park and restored after being donated to the village.
