Construction will occur along West Second Street from South Progress Drive to South Church Street/U.S. 42, and due to the nature of the work, motorists should expect temporary lane closures and delays, according to a release by the City of Xenia Engineering Division.
A significant amount of the improvements involve the repair and replacement of sub-base asphalt, which is necessary because of the many years of automobile and semi-truck traffic. The project also specifies a leveling and a surface course of asphalt, new signal detector loops, and traffic markings.
In addition to typical roadway repairs, work will include the removal and replacement of American Disability Act (ADA) compliant ramps at several of the cross-streets which include: Beatty Drive, Massie Drive, June Drive, Scott Street, South Allison Avenue, Little Main Street, Orange Street and Bellbrook Avenue.
The project also includes the repairing and replacing of deteriorated concrete and broken curb within the public right-of-way.
The city advises motorists to seek alternate routes for the duration of the project. Ottawa Drive, Beatty Drive, Rockwell Drive, Massie Drive, June Drive, Scott Street, South Allison Avenue, Little Main Street, Orange Street and Bellbrook Avenue will remain open during construction.
Funding for the project were provided by the Miami Valley Regional Planning Commission (MVRPC), the Ohio Public Works Commission (OPWC), and Ohio’s Community Development Block Grant (CDBG).
