MASON — An international business headquartered here began construction today on a new facility that owners said will bring 200 new jobs over the next three years.

Intelligrated, a manufacturer of conveyor belts, sorting systems and other material handling robotics, broke ground on the new 60,000-90,000 square foot facility next to its Mason headquarters. When completed, the site will bring an additional 200 new technical and engineering positions in research and development, system design and customer service, said company CEO Chris Cole. The company already employs 800 people in Ohio and is currently hiring for a number of positions.

“We aim to be the most technologically-advanced player in the material handling industry,” Cole said. “To achieve this, we need space to house the best mechanical, software and systems talent in the world.”

Cole said the company was running out of space at the current facility, which was what prompted the expansion. He said Mason was chosen because of its proximity to urban and rural settings and because city leaders had been easy to work with.

Intelligrated saw growth of more than 38 percent in 2011, Cole said. The company serves such prominent companies as Walmart and Amazon.

Intelligrated received a $15 million expansion package from Ohio and Mason that included a combination of Intelligrated’s existing job creation tax credit, state and local government loans, property tax abatement and a grant from the State.

“This was no small undertaking, particularly in this day and time,” said Mason Mayor David Nichols. “It’s a substantial commitment and investment on (Intelligrated’s) part... Jobs, jobs, jobs, that is what it’s about.”

Cole credited his company’s success to the emphasis it places on customer service.

“We listen to customers and are always careful to keep them happy,” Cole said.

The expansion is scheduled to be completed in the fall.
