It was as if they could see the future. On March 15, Gov. Mike DeWine ordered all restaurants to cease their dine-in service. And yesterday, on March 23, their new restaurant, Dayton Street Eats, opened its doors at 5993 Bigger Road in south Kettering.

“We are super thankful we went this (carryout) route,” Green told this news outlet Monday. “The circumstances are unfortunate, but we will make the best of it and try and help our community the best way we can.”

A statewide stay-at-home order that took effect today, Tuesday March 24, exempts restaurants selling prepared food for curbside pickup and delivery. Under the order, Ohioans are allowed to leave their homes to pick up food and beverages.

The Dayton Street Eats menu includes pizza and nearly a dozen sandwiches, including a reuben-like “Bearded Lady,” the restaurant’s signature sandwich; the “Mother-In-Law,” chicken salad with grapes, celery and onions served on toasted French bread; a spicy “Fire Eater” grilled cheese; a Cuban; a Meatball Sub; and a BLT. Side dishes, salads, kids meals and desserts, including a funnel cake topped with powdered sugar.

Green also operates the Dayton Urban BBQ food truck.
Dayton Street Eats is open 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday. For more information or to place an order, call 937-522-0730.

Scott Green founded the popular local food truck Dayton Urban BBQ eight years ago, and now he and partner Jerika Witt are gearing up to open a new bricks-and-mortar restaurant in south Kettering.
Renovations are underway at the new carryout restaurant at 5993 Bigger Road, and "Dayton Street Eats" could open as early as next month, Green told this news outlet. The space previously housed Shantz Express, also a food truck that launched a bricks-and-mortar presence, but shut down in October 2019 after about nine months.

Dayton Street Eats was originally going to be another food truck, Green said. But the Dayton Urban BBQ founder said he has had his eye on the Bigger Road space for a while.
“It’s perfect, because Dayton Urban BBQ will use the back kitchen as a base of operation,” Green said. “This carryout restaurant is the next natural step for me. I love street food. Everywhere in the world has their own street food traditions. Our menu will constantly grow and change.”

Green, a military veteran who developed a love of cooking while in the U.S. Marine Corps, said the carryout restaurant’s menu will include a variety of traditional and inventive street food items inspired by different cultural influences, along with carnival-style favorite, including a signature funnel cake, Green said.
Green is also in the process of building another food truck, which will focus on tacos. “All three businesses will be different,” he said.
