It started in a detached garage behind the residence.
There are no injuries to report and no one was inside the garage at the time. However, there may have been several stray kittens inside the structure. The first police officer on the scene was able to rescue one of those kittens, whose ears were scorched.
Parts of Phillipsburg-Union Road were closed this morning, but the road has since reopened.
Mutual aid was requested from several nearby departments.
At this time, the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
