The landslide occurred on a steep and sandy 80-foot tall section of the north side of the road.
“It’s been sliding for some time, and early this summer it got too close to the road for comfort,” Gruner said.
The suggested detour will be Oxford Road to Astoria Road to Ohio 725 to Boomershine Road and back to Oxford Road.
Local residents will still have access to local streets and drives.
Gruner said the landslides are along Oxford Road west of Germantown. While the road is closed, Gruner said workers will be deployed to stop the slope failures by building a “buried bridge” spanning the slide area.
It will be anchored by steel H-piles driven 60 feet below the roadway, Gruner said.
The bridge will support a reinforced concrete slab to replace the Oxford Road pavement, Gruner said.
The work will be done by Barrett Paving Materials Inc. and cost $700,000. Federal and state funds will cover the entire cost, Gruner said.
“If we had not obtained emergency funds, we would have had to close the entire road. We don’t have that in our emergency budget,” he said.
