LEBANON — Family is important to Lebanon resident Jeff Vaughn. He followed his dad’s lead in joining the military and has served for 22 years.
The two are close and even served together during Desert Shield and Desert Storm.
“It was both an honor and pleasure to serve beside him,” Vaughn said.
“He was able to ease some of my worries and fears,” Vaughn said. “I had only been in the military nine months at the time our unit was activated. We were in the same unit, so we were at the same base. Although we could never fly together, we got to share stories and visit quite regularly.”
Vaughn and his wife, Nancy, have one child, Kayla.
He has received numerous awards during his time in the service, including a Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal, Aerial Achievement Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary & Service Medal and the Kuwait Liberation Medal for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia & Government of Kuwait.

How he got involved in the military: “Followed in my dad’s footsteps wanting to be a loadmaster.”
What actions Vaughn performed: “None. I’m just doing my job. I am a veteran of Operation Desert Shield, Desert Storm and Operation Iraqi and Enduring Freedom.”
Most satisfying part about his actions: “Being an aircrew member and flying some of the most critically injured service members from the theater of operation to the United States to get them closer to their family and loved ones.”
Most memorable moment of service: “Standing beside my father when he received his Ohio Military Hall of Fame for Valor award for his duty and actions received during his time in the Vietnam War.,” Vaughn said.
“Serving together along side him in Desert Shield and Desert Storm war as well,” he added.
