Man, 43, critically injured after he was assaulted, run over in Harrison Twp.

UPDATE @ 12:55 a.m. (Aug. 3):

A 43-year-old Dayton man was critically injured Friday night after he was assaulted and then struck in a hit-and-run crash in the 2200 block of Esmeralda Avenue, according to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.

The victim was identified as Clifford Wilson, who was one of about 20 to 30 people who had gathered for a wake at the time of the incident around 10 p.m.

He was assaulted by several others and then placed in the street. Several minutes later, a vehicle struck him after it left the driveway and the driver fled the scene, deputies said.

The incident remains under investigation, and anyone with information is urged to call the sheriff’s office at 937-225-HELP(4357) or Miami Valley Crime Stoppers 937-225 STOP(7867).

UPDATE @ 11:10 p.m.: Deputies now have put up crime scene tape and blocked traffic to Esmeralda Avenue, in Harrison Twp., as their investigation into a pedestrian strike continues.

There has been no word about the condition of the man run over by a vehicle near an outdoor party.

INITIAL REPORT

A man was run over by a vehicle tonight in the 2200 block of Esmeralda Ave. in Harrison Twp.

He has been taken to a hospital in unknown condition.

There was an outdoor party or celebration occurring as part of a wake and the man was believed to have been attending the event, according to Montgomery County Sheriff's deputies and residents who live in the area.

What isn't clear is how the victim came to be hit by the vehicle, which apparently did not stop.

The victim has been taken to a hospital, deputies said, and his injuries appear to be serious.
