Masque to close in January

One of Dayton’s most iconic gay bars will close in less than a month.

Masque will close in January, according to a post on the club’s Facebook page.

The club owners were unable to “negotiate a reasonable lease” with the owner of the building and could not buy the building, the post said.

The last day for the second level of the club will be January 18 and the last day for the first level of Masque will be January 25. Although the club at 34 N. Jefferson St. will shut down, the Facebook post said it will reopen in another location and that the owners are “actively looking” for a new space to open the club.

“It has been an amazing 15 years hopefully to be continued in a new venue,” the Facebook post said.

The owner said the new location will hopefully be in Dayton, but they are open to moving it to a new city.

“I would like to thank the wonderful staff, entertainers and amazing customers we have had over the years,” the post said. “We couldn’t have done it without you.”
