Vehicle into pole sends 1 to hospital, alcohol suspected, OSHP says

UPDATE @ 9:35 p.m.: The driver of the vehicle that crashed into a pole north of Eaton Saturday evening is suspected of driving while intoxicated, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The female driver was heading north on Monroe Central Road and was driving recklessly when she lost control and hit a utility pole, OSHP said. She was flown by medical helicopter to a local hospital.

The crash knocked out power to residences in the area, and DP&L was called to assist with restoring power, OSHP said.

Numerous people reported the woman’s reckless driving prior to the crash.

INITIAL REPORT: A vehicle is reportedly on its top after crashing into a pole on OH 726 and Monroe Central Road north of Eaton Saturday evening, according to initial reports.

Injuries and number of people involved are unknown.

There are reports that power lines are down on top of the vehicle.

A medical helicopter has been requested to the scene, according to scanner traffic.
