$8 million marina to open in March at Caesar Creek Lake

A 120-slip marina is to open in late March at Caesar Creek Lake in Warren County.

The $8.8 million first phase will also include a floating concession stand, fuel facilities and “wave attenuators,” special floating barriers to manage changes in current at the lake east of Waynesville, according to Phil Miller, capital improvements administrator for the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.

Miller said the project, which could result in a $15 million investment by the state, would meet a deficiency in boating facilities in this part of the state.

About 3 million people visit the lake every year, according to the Warren County Convention & Visitors Bureau. There are no boat slips or fuel facilities.

Eventually the marina could include 240 slips or more, Miller said during a presentation Tuesday to the commissioners.

“This is a big deal,” Warren County Commissioner Dave Young. ““Tourism is our number 1 industry.”

Miller said people wanting to rent slips should monitor http://parks.ohiodnr.gov/. He predicted a lottery system would be used due to the anticipated demand.
