Purchasing the property instead of paying the lease will save approximately $600,000 over the course of the next 10 years, said Montgomery County Administrator Michael Colbert.
“Eventually, we plan to renovate the two unoccupied floors and relocate individuals from high-cost office space to this location where appropriate,” Colbert said.
EARLIER REPORTING: Montgomery County plans to buy dispatch center building
Montgomery County purchased the 49,000-square-foot building and 4.5 acres from New York-based Jen Skyline Inc., which had purchased the center in 2018. The acreage is the former Mound Laboratories site.
The center dispatches police and fire calls for Clayton, Dayton, Germantown, Miami Twp., Miamisburg, Trotwood, Washington Twp. and several other local communities.
The facility also handles calls for the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, which has 79 employees based at the dispatch center, according to the office.
The sale is expected to close in the next 60 to 90 days, Small said.
The building has many features that make it desirable for location of the regional dispatch center, Colbert said, including earthquake resistant design, physical security features and being located away from major highways and railways.
Acquiring the property will also allow Montgomery County to maintain local operational control for law enforcement and first responder activity.
