Christine Smart was recently awarded the 2016 John P. Kalaman Respect for Law Award from the Noon Optimist Club in Centerville.
Named in memory of Centerville Police Officer John Kalaman, Smart started her career with Centerville as a Police cadet in 1985 and was promoted to Police Officer two years later.
She served as the Juvenile Officer from 1989-94 before she left the department, returning in 1996 to work part-time as a civilian. She has held the position of staff services coordinator since 1997. Her duties including grant writer, purchasing manager and the department’s accreditation manager.

City seeking input on services, programs
Four thousand homes will receive the 2016 Dayton Survey by mail during the week of May 16.
The survey’s 60 questions cover a broad assortment of City services, programs and priorities, and answers provided by will help inform City of Dayton officials when making future policy decisions. Residents should look for an envelope showing the City of Dayton seal and the words “Your Copy of Dayton Survey Inside.”
Those who receive a paper survey by mail can fill out the survey by hand and return it using the postage paid envelope provide, or, complete the survey online at daytonsurvey.org by using the unique personal identification number provided in the mailed survey. The online survey will be open to the public from June 3 through June 17 at www.daytonsurvey.org for residents not selected for the mailing.

RTA launches pilot discount program
The Greater Dayton RTA’s is launching a pilot program this summer that will provide youth an unlimited travel option for three months for $55. .
Area students between the ages of 13 and 18 are eligible for the Summer Passport program, which will provide access for students on any fixed route and at any time between June 1 and Aug. 31, 2016.
Summer Passports will go on sale beginning May 23. Students must show a picture school ID, a driver’s license, or an Ohio ID along with their Summer Passport to board an RTA bus.
Summer Passport passes may be purchased at the Wright Stop Plaza ticket window between the hours of 6 a.m. and 7 p.m., Monday through Saturday. They are also available at the Northwest Transit Center ticket window every day between 4:30 a.m. and 11 p.m.

Annual arts festival is Aug. 13, 14
Applications from artists and parade participants for the 43rd annual Englewood Art Festival, Saturday, Aug. 13, and Sunday, Aug. 14, are now being accepted by the Englewood Festival and Arts Commission.
The parade is a prelude to all of the festival events and will be held Saturday, Aug. 13, at 9 a.m. Applications will be accepted by the parade committee through July 15.
Artists are asked to submit photos of their handmade original work for review by the Festival Exhibitors Committee. Registration deadline is June 1.
