The Montgomery County Solid Waste District broke ground Wednesday for its compressed natural gas fueling station at the Montgomery County Solid Waste District Transfer and Recycling Facility. The station should be completed and open to the public in May 2016.
The Solid Waste District is replacing its fleet with CNG fueled vehicles, a move that will be completed over the next year. The county expects to save $150,000 per year in operational costs. It will spend $4.5 million to build the station and purchase the vehicles.
“Our hope is that this CNG station will help to drive economic growth, improve local air quality, and reduce our fleet fueling and maintenance costs,” Montgomery County Commissioner Judy Dodge said. “Our constituents expect us to help drive innovation and economic investment, and to be good stewards of our environment. This station is just one way we are meeting those expectations.”
The district has applied for a $750,000 Diesel Emissions Reduction Grant from the Ohio EPA to help fund the project. STEVE BENNISH
