Schools to induct three into Hall of Fame

The Kettering City School district will hold its Chester A. Roush Educational Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Recital Hall at Fairmont High School.

A reception will immediately follow the ceremony in the Fairmont Art Gallery.

Roger Bauser, Mary Jo Fitzpatrick and Chuck Taylor — three long-time educators with a combined 115 years of service to education — will be inducted during the hall of fame ceremony. STAFF REPORT

Free shredding event today

AARP Ohio and Fairhaven Church are sponsoring “Shred Fest 2016” today from 9 a.m. to noon today or until the on-site shredding service trucks reach full capacity.

The event will be at Fairhaven Church, 637 E. Whipp Road.

Dayton Mediation Center to host conference

The Dayton Mediation Center, with support from the University of Dayton School of Law, will serve as host this year to an international conference on mediation and conflict transformation. New Horizons for Transformative Practice, created by the Institute for the Study of Conflict Transformation, will be held Monday and Tuesday at the University of Dayton River Campus, 1700 S. Patterson Blvd.

The conference is open to mediators and others from any field interested in learning more about the transformative approach to conflict intervention, according to Joe Folger, president of the board of trustees for the ISCT and co-creator of the transformative model of mediation.

Folger, professor of Adult and Organizational Development at Temple University, will be a featured speaker along with Robert Baruch Bush, who worked with Folger to develop the transformative model of mediation. The pair also coauthored “The Promise of Mediation”.

Library to host senior resource fair

The Washington-Centerville Public Library is hosting a seminar entitled, “Protecting Your Estate from Nursing Home Costs,” from 10:30 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 14, as part of a Senior Resource Fair.

The event will be held at the Centerville Library, 111 W. Spring Valley Road.

Michael J. Millonig, a certified Elder Law Attorney, will lead the seminar. He will cover topics such as insurance for nursing home care, asset preservation strategies, Medicaid eligibility, Medicaid Trusts, Medicaid Annuities and Risks of Gifting to Children.

Other speakers include Laurel Kerr, Vice President of Programs for the Alzheimer’s Association (noon to 12:30 p.m.) and Chip Wilkins, Director, Long-term Care Ombudsman (1-1:30 p.m.).

Library to offer yoga for babies, toddlers

The Washington-Centerville Public Library is offering two yoga workshops for mothers and their babies at the Centerville Library, 111 W. Spring Valley Road.

The first session is from 10-10:30 a.m. May 12 for babies who have not yet begun to walk. The second session from 1-1:30 p.m. June 10 for beginning walkers. Registration for both sessions is required.

Free community basketball camp offered

North Dayton School of Discovery will host a free community basketball camp for pre-K through seventh-grade students from 5:30-7:30 p.m. May 11 and 12 at 3901 Turner Road.

Both days will cover basketball fundamentals and games.

The camp is open to the first 40 students who register.

Yankee Trace head golf pro wins award

Steven Marino, Head Golf Professional at The Golf Club at Yankee Trace, was recently named 2016 Southern Ohio Professional Golfers’ Association Merchandiser of the Year for public golf courses.

The award will be presented during a SOPGA awards event in November.

Marino has served as the head golf professional at Yankee Trace since 2005. He oversees the Golf Shop, merchandising, golf academy lessons and programs, as well as manages leagues and other events.

The American Golf Corporation named him Merchandiser of the Year for 1997 and Golf Professional of the Year in 1999. He has achieved Class A PGA Member in Good Standing status since 1996.
