Kroger bought the plaza in 2014 for $2.3 million and demolished much of it earlier this year. The land straddled the boundaries of the city and Miami Twp. until Moraine annexed the site a few years ago.

Kroger Marketplace stores offer Kroger’s variety of food products but also expand into clothing, kitchen and small appliances, home office, toys and decor. Many of the Marketplaces also add food courts, wine bars, salad bars and Kroger pickup options.
The Cincinnati-based company has been expanding stores to offer Marketplaces in recent years. Fairborn’s Marketplace store opened beside its former store on Dayton Yellow Springs Road in August 2017, and the grocer recently remodeled its Huber Heights and Kettering locations.
A Kroger official said this morning she did not have a projected completion date on the new store.
