New restaurant to fill breakfast void

Lisa’s Kitchen and Catering takes over where Landmark Restaurant, which served breakfast more than eight years ago, left off.

Lisa's Kitchen and Catering is at 425 S. Main St., Franklin.

FRANKLIN — Breakfast is an again an option in town when a restaurant opens today, Aug. 18.

Lisa’s Kitchen and Catering will serve homestyle breakfast and lunch.

City Manager Jim Lukas and the restaurant’s owner, Lisa Ault, say it fills the void left by the closing of the Landmark Restaurant, which served breakfast, more than eight years ago.

The restaurant is downtown in renovated space at 425 S. Main St.

The space was leased at the end of January for $7,800 for a renewable one-year term from Malhotra Real Estate of Mason.

“I’m just looking forward to going into business for myself,” Ault said.

Next week, Ault hopes to have daily food specials, such as chicken and dumplings. By spring, the hope is to open an outdoor courtyard eating area.

Like any other business, Ault will be challenged to overcome the economy, Lukas said.

Landmark used to be very successful, Lukas said, and this can take over where Landmark left off.

“Hopefully good food will prevail,” Lukas said.

Prior to the new restaurant, Ault had managed PH Bistro on Main Street and Franklin Golf Club.

For the past five years, she did part-time catering work. Franklin City Schools is a catering customer.

Alt catered breakfasts Monday, Aug. 16, for teachers and Tuesday for classified staff of the schools.

“We just wanted to try someone new and keep it in the area as well,” said Shirley Hounshell, secretary for Franklin Schools.

Preparations for opening included $15,000 in renovations. The almost 2,500-square-feet space was formerly occupied by a bakery.

Lisa’s Kitchen and Catering offers dine-in, carry-out or delivery from 5 a.m. to 2 p.m. It has six employees.

“Everyone in town’s had real good positive feedback,” Ault said.
