Khadijah Lee and Kionna Bennett, both 24 and of Charleston, are free on bond from the traffic stop, which occurred the morning of July 17 on U.S. 23 in Pickaway County, state patrol officials said in a statement released Thursday.
Troopers stopped their car, a Nissan Sentra bearing Alabama plates, for following too closely. Criminal indicators were present and troopers said they detected an odor of marijuana. A probable cause search of the vehicle turned up a small amount of marijuana and more than 4 pounds of cocaine the state patrol said is worth approximately $200,000.
Lee and Bennett are charged with felony drug possession and drug trafficking. Each of them could be sentenced to 22 years in prison and fined $40,000 if convicted as charged.
A preliminary hearing for Bennett was on the docket for Thursday [today].
A preliminary hearing for Lee is scheduled for July 29, according to online Circleville Municipal Court records.
