A proposal to convert the alley between the Tipp City Public Library and the Coldwater Cafe on Main Street downtown into an outdoor dining/seating space received verbal support Monday from the Tipp City council.

Lisa Santucci, library director, and Nick Hoover, Coldwater Cafe owner, updated council on the proposal that has been under discussion several months.

Hoover said he's talked with state liquor control officials about requirements for the outdoor space and will ask the city Restoration Board to allow him to place a door in the building to access the alley. The library already has a door leading into the alley.

The end of the alley would be closed off with a removable decorative fence with a five-foot opening for pedestrians.

Council will be asked to approve an outdoor dining license agreement at a May meeting.
