Body of woman found in Dayton garage ID’d

The body of a woman found in a garage has been identified as Natalie Jones, 26, of Dayton, according to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office.

An autopsy for Jones is ongoing and the cause and manner of her death are not yet known, the coroner’s office said.

The death of an unidentified female whose body was found in a garage on New Year’s Day has been determined to be a homicide, according to the Dayton police report.

The victim’s identity was not immediately known and is not listed in the report.

The Montgomery County Coroner’s Office is tasked with determine the cause and manner of death and assist investigators in identifying the female.

EARLIER

Dayton homicide investigators and the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office are working to learn the identify of a female who was found dead Sunday afternoon and what may have happened to her.

A passerby called 9-1-1 after seeing the female’s body lying face down in a garage in an alley between Fountain and Delaware avenues around 2 p.m..

Sgt. Creigee Coleman said medics were called and tried to render care but determined the female was deceased.

"The coroner and the homicide squad ... They could not make a determination at this point if it was an OD or some type of traumatic experience that happened to this person,” he said.

Investigators have not been able to identify the body and it’s not clear how long the body had been in the garage, nor where the death occurred.

Coleman said the garage is attached to a home that was occupied. Investigators talked to the residents there and continue to seek any potential witnesses.
