Police, Vectren crews respond to possible gas leak

Police checked construction for a gas leak at the intersection of Woodcliffe Ave at Russet Ave late Sunday morning after a report of a smell of natural gas in the area.

At 11:30 a.m., Police were dispatched to the area of Woodcliffe Ave near Russet Ave after dispatch received numerous calls of smelling gas in the area.

Police arrived and found a construction area where a large metal plate was covering an area where digging occurred. They reported a smell of natural gas and requested Vectren Gas to the scene to repair the leak.

A Vectren spokesperson said Miller Construction is doing some contract work for Vectren at that location and will conclude soon. Vectren repair crews also examined the area for possible dangers and leaks and ruled the scene safe. Vectren said the leak was minor in nature and posed no danger.
