Freeze Warning in effect; Rain, snow early turns to just rain during day

Sub-freezing temperatures as low as 31 degrees are expected, which will kill crops or other sensitive vegetation and may damage unprotected outdoor water pipes.

Early this morning, rain and snow are likely, according to the National Weather Service in Wilmington. Snow is particularly a possibility in counties north of I-70, with the NWS predicting snow accumulation in Auglaize, Champaign, Darke, Logan, Mercer, Miami and Shelby counties of up to 2-3 inches in some locations, mainly on grassy surfaces.

The NWS also warned that some slick spots may develop on roads, bridges and overpasses so motorists should drive carefully.

As the day continues, the snow and rain is expected to turn to just rain as temperatures rise to near 52 degrees. Rain showers are likely to continue well into the overnight hours as temperatures drop back down to around 33 degrees.

For Saturday, the rain is predicted to trail off in the very early morning hours, followed by the clouds breaking up during the day for some sun and a high near 54 degrees. Saturday night is predicted to stay clear as well, with a low of around 38 degrees.

Rain chances will return again for Sunday, though, mainly in the afternoon. Conditions will otherwise be mostly cloudy with a high near 56 degrees. Sunday night is expected to be cloudy but not rainy, with a low of around 38 degrees.
