UPDATE @ 10:55 p.m. (Sept. 29) : One man is in custody stemming from the shooting in Bowersville tonight in the 5700 block of West Xenia Street, Greene County sheriff's Sgt. Beth Prall said.

The victim, a male in his 30s, was in surgery late tonight at Miami Valley Hospital. His condition is not known, Prall said.

The man taken into custody is being questioned, she said. She said she was not prepared to comment on whether the men know each other.

Prall said investigators worked two crime scenes because they learned the shooting occurred at one location and the victim was able to move to a second location.

Steve Thompson said he was at the Marathon gas station, Xenia and Maysville streets, when he heard "about six" gunshots and someone yelling for help.

Thompson said he asked another Marathon patron to go inside and call 9-1-1. He said he ran to the victim.

"I ended up taking my shirt off, to keep him [the victim] from bleeding out," Thompson said, and held his shirt on the wound until police arrived.

Thompson said he doesn't know the victim's name, only that he lives in the village.
